Meet The Trainers

Lauren and Christopher met at a horse show in the summer of 2016 and married in September 2019.  Since 2019 they have worked together to build their Underhill Farm and are thrilled to be located in Loveland, Ohio.  Lauren and Christopher are like-minded in their dedication to high quality training and meticulous horse care, but their different personalities, strengths, and teaching styles create a great balance and bring a little extra variety to the client experience.  Both Lauren and Christopher train and compete in the hunters and the jumpers and have taught first time students to Grand Prix riders, adults and children alike.

Lauren Underhill

Lauren Underhill is a hunter/jumper trainer who has been a passionate equestrian and lover of horses for her entire life.  As a junior she competed in the hunters and equitation, winning the Large Junior Hunter 16-17 year end Zone 5 championship in 1999, and as an amateur Lauren competed in the jumpers and hunters.  Lauren has qualified for, and competed and trained riders at indoors in the hunters, jumpers, and equitation.

After graduating from Miami University in Ohio with a B.S. in Marketing, Lauren worked her way up the ranks of the horse industry as a groom, barn manager, assistant trainer, and professional rider.  In 2013 Lauren started Greystoke Farm, a full service hunter/jumper show stable in the northern Chicago suburbs.  There she stressed safety, horsemanship, and discipline and helped adults and children of all levels meet their goals at home and at local and national horse shows.

In 2019 Lauren joined her husband, Christopher, to train at Underhill Farm in Long Lake, Minnesota, where she stayed until Lauren and Christopher relocated to Loveland, Ohio in 2023.  Lauren competes in both the hunters and the jumpers and loves bringing along ponies.  She is committed to top horse care and training, and is consistently furthering her own education to bring the most to her students and horses.

Christopher Underhill

Christopher Underhill fell in love with the sport of horseback riding at the young age of 7 years old.  He got his first horse when he was 15 and as a junior he competed in hunters, jumpers, and equitation.  He finished in the top 10 at Junior Jumper Finals at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in 1993 and in 1994 he qualified for, and competed at, the North American Young Rider Championships for Zone 6.

In 2000 Christopher became a professional based in the Minneapolis suburbs, where with his family he purchased historic Alpine Farms in Medina, Minnesota in 2008.  While he has always competed and trained professionally in both the hunters and the jumpers, his heart is in the jumper ring, particularly the Grand Prix ring.  Christopher has competed and placed in Grand Prixs all over the country throughout his career.

Christopher loves doing horse sales as much as he loves jumping giant fences, and his passion stands out.  To date Christopher has imported 65 sale horses from Europe, South America, and Canada and he spends massive amounts of time not only buying and selling horses for Underhill Farm's own clients, but also making what he calls "love connections" where he matches a horse buyer with the seller that has the perfectly suited equine.

Christopher is an excellent teacher and especially great with kids.  He exudes fun and his students thrive on his free spirited personality and boundless energy!

TRAINING

At Underhill Farm Lauren and Christopher are committed to quality training of both the horse and rider.  They take the time to find out what their clients goals are, and then structure a program for the horse and rider that will enable them to reach these goals.  Lauren and Christopher believe that success starts with strong basics and there is a necessity for fitness, consistency, and variety in the training of their horses and riders.  No two lessons are the same, but lessons always build upon each other.  The Full Training monthly package includes both lessons and professional rides done by Lauren and Christopher.

CARE

Underhill Farm offers two Care options at home to go along with Training (all horses are on Full Care at horse shows).

  • Full Care:  Underhill Farm staff will do all grooming, tacking, bathing, bridle cleaning, wrapping, ear and muzzle trimming, and mane pulling.

  • Half Care: Underhill Farm staff will do grooming, tacking, bathing, bridle cleaning, and wrapping on days when horses are professionally ridden and owners will do own grooming, tacking, etc. on all other days.

Whether horses are in Full Care or Half Care, Lauren and Christopher will get to know the horses inside and out and will work closely with vets, farriers, dentists, and any needed bodyworkers to make sure that the horses feel and perform at their best.
